Abstract: Oil and fat being source of high dense energy, providing essential fatty acids, enhancing absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, thus it play a vital role in sow nutrition. The reproductive performance and feed efficiency could be improved when supplementing oil and/or fat in sow diet during late gestation and/or lactation. This paper mainly reviewed and discussed the research advances in last 20 years concerning the effects of oil and fat on sow reproductive performance,

sows¡¯ feed intake in lactation, sow body weight loss, sow back-fat loss, fat content and energy output and fatty acid profile in milk, body composition of offspring piglet, and the reproductive performance in the subsequent parity when sows were fed diets containing the oil and/or fats in late gestation and/or lactation.
